Experiencing the Son’s Light:

A Spiritual Reflection on the Eclipse

Recently, we Americans witnessed an amazing phenomenon: a total eclipse of the sun. For those in the path of totality, this must have been one of those events that will forever be etched in the mind’s eye and memory.

This got me thinking about a spiritual lesson. The Bible says in John Chapter 8, verse 12: “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of this world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'” Just as the moon blocked out the light of the sun, resulting in darkness, when we allow things to block out Jesus in our life, we also experience darkness. I am not proud to admit it, but there was a time in my younger self when I allowed a lot of stuff to block Jesus out of my life. This darkness robbed me of peace, joy, and contentment.
