In this blog, Dr. Kathy Groppe shares her journey from growing up in the picturesque landscapes of La Jolla, California, to embracing the country life in Poway, where her family ran a small avocado ranch. Despite initial reluctance, my involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA) marked a turning point, leading her to raise a prize-winning pig and discover a passion for agriculture. Her educational path in biology, specializing in cell and molecular biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, further shaped her understanding of ecosystems.

After a stint in molecular biology, a pivotal moment watching ‘Kiss the Ground’ reignited her commitment to farming practices that nurture the land. Delving into regenerative agriculture, she embarked on a journey of learning and advocacy, culminating in a deep understanding of its principles and a dedication to sharing this knowledge with others.
