Sebring, FL – On November 20, the Green Jean Foundation, working in partnership with Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS), delivered a total of 33 raised garden beds to Heartland Christian School, further enhancing the school’s thriving garden program. The delivery included 21 raised beds for herbs and pollination plants, strategically placed below the covered awning to utilize natural water collection methods such as condensation runoff and rainwater. These beds also serve as a pedestrian barrier to control traffic flow, adding functionality to their sustainability efforts.
In addition, 12 raised beds dedicated to vegetable gardening will provide elementary students with hands-on opportunities to grow their own produce. The vegetable beds complement the school’s existing greenhouse and shade house, offering students an expanded environment for agricultural learning. Cheryl Humphreys, the teacher leading Heartland Christian’s garden program, expressed her excitement about the new additions, noting how they will enrich the school’s ability to teach sustainability, plant science, and the value of fresh, homegrown food.
“We’re excited to support Heartland Christian School’s garden program with these raised beds,” said Matt Palmer, founder of the Green Jean Foundation. “This project highlights our dedication to providing schools with the resources they need to educate the next generation about agriculture, and we are deeply grateful to Chris Joyce, regional manager at ADS, for his efforts in bringing this project to life.”
