Sarasota, FL – The Green Jean Foundation joined forces with volunteers from the Sarasota Chapter of the Florida Farm Bureau and Wilkinson Elementary teacher Rachel Della-Donna to create a thriving school garden at Wilkinson Elementary School. The project will benefit all 460 students, providing them with a hands-on learning environment that connects them to the natural world and the origins of their food.

The garden, designed to inspire curiosity and creativity, will feature a variety of vegetables and herbs for students to plant, care for, and harvest. Through this initiative, students will engage in STEM education by learning the science behind plant growth and the agricultural processes that sustain their communities. By integrating gardening into their curriculum, Wilkinson Elementary aims to teach students valuable lessons about sustainability, healthy eating, and the effort that goes into growing the food they consume.

“We’re thrilled to support Wilkinson Elementary and its students with this dynamic project,” said Rachael Witherspoon, Education Director at the Green Jean Foundation. “By creating spaces like this garden, we not only foster an appreciation for agriculture but also inspire the next generation to think critically about their relationship with the environment and food systems.”
